What are we listening to?

Adriana: A few weeks ago I saw Berlioz live and I’ve since been playing his music on repeat. He’s been pretty popular in Europe and this was his first North American tour. His music is a mix of house, jazz and lounge music and if you want to check him out, his nyc 1940 song sums up his style.

Martina: If you're on TikTok you've probably noticed Lil Yachty’s songs are very popular. If you are not, then you likely missed the recent copyright drama. Lil Yachty posted a whole batch of never-before-released songs and they became super popular. However, due to copyright issues all of the songs were taken down, but one of the songs that stuck with me was A Cold Sunday, which is now available on Spotify.

What are we reading?

Adriana: I’m currently reading two books: Butler to the World by Oliver Bullough and The Personal Librarian by Marie Benedict and Victoria Christopher Murray. Butler to the World is non-fiction and it’s about the history of the UK placing itself at the center of enabling tycoons, money laundering, and other crimes. The Personal Librarian is about Belle da Costa Greene, who became the personal librarian to J.P. Morgan and built his impressive library of books, art and manuscripts. She became the most powerful woman in New York society despite a dangerous secret she kept. I’m enjoying both of these books and, so far, would recommend them.

Martina: This month I decided to finally read a book that has been on my shelf for quite some time now. Revenge of She-Punks by Vivien Goldman is about punk culture with a focus on women’s contribution to the movement. I like the writing style of this book and my favorite part is that every chapter starts with a list of songs that are the focus of the chapter. I enjoy listening to the songs and reading about the authors, and this book gave me a different perspective on their lives and art.

What are we watching?

Adriana: I’m embarrassed to say but I just watched Good Will Hunting for the first time. I love the movies from the 90s because there was not much CGI so the stories and directing had to be creative. I’m in search of a good T.V. show so if anyone has recommendations, let me know.

Martina: One lazy evening watching T.V. I stumbled upon the work of Nina Ognjanovic. I saw her movie Where the Roads Lead (Ovuda se proći mora) and I really enjoyed it. The movie is about how people quickly make judgments and act upon them. It received numerous prizes and I can see why. I highly recommend it.

Where are we going?

Adriana: I just took my husband out for his birthday to OVO Bistro for breakfast in Belgrade and it was delicious. The menu was simple, the ingredients were fresh and the service was great. The restaurant has only a few tables inside so make sure to make a reservation if you plan to go during the weekend.

Martina: Cetinjska is a street in Belgrade that’s packed with bars and restaurants. The vibe is similar to Berlin and if you want to meet people who are interesting and fashionable this is the place to go. Zaokret is one of my favorite places here. It’s a restaurant/bar that serves good breakfast and coffee and has great music in the evenings. Next time you are in town make sure to stop by, you won’t regret it.

What are we buying?

Adriana: I just bought Acqua di Rose toner by Santa Maria Novella. I learned about this brand while exploring Florence and have been fascinated with it ever since. The company was established in 1221 and it’s the oldest pharmacy in Italy (probably the world). The rose toner is made from the roses grown in their yard and it smells divine. They still sell the perfume they made for Catherine de Medici and I’m curious to try it one day.

Martina: I think my search for a good mascara is finally over. For the last few years I tried to find a mascara that will stay on a whole day without smudging and I think I finally found it. I got Diorshow Iconic Overcurl Mascara as a present and I absolutely love it. It’s also light and long-lasting.
